MOST people would admit to suffering from work-induced stress at some point in their lives.
And with six in 10 of us believing job pressures have affected our mental health, the need to strike the right work-life balance is more important than ever before.
Team building sessions, away days and duvet days have long been used by businesses to boost staff well-being but increasingly employers are looking at new ways to improve employee satisfaction and productivity.
For example, breakfast giants Kellogg’s recently announced that their workers would be allowed to finish early at 12pm over the summer months to give them better flexibility for long weekends in the warmer weather.
The firm cited research that claims those people who feel they have a good work-life balance work 21 per cent harder than those who don’t.
Similarly, a school in Daventry, Northamptonshire, recently revealed it was shutting early at 1.15pm on Fridays to prevent teacher ‘burnout’ and stem the tide of teachers leaving the profession.
Ashby Fields Primary School said the move was necessary because staff were struggling with the workload, which was preventing a healthy work-life balance.
Penny Weston, director of Moddershall Oaks, said companies were demanding more from a conference venue and it was not enough to simply offer meeting rooms and tech presentation equipment any more.
Facilities to help staff wind down at the end of the day are just as important to modern firms, she added.
‘We are regularly contacted by businesses to host their events who are keen to ensure that – as well as providing the right working environment – we can provide their staff with suitable activities and relaxing downtime,’ Mrs Weston said.
‘Bosses want their employees to be able to focus on the job in hand, but also have the opportunity for rest and relaxation during time off.
‘Our award-winning spa facilities and treatments, plus our tranquil surroundings, are perfect for helping staff unwind and take their mind off work at the end of a busy corporate event or training day.’
